Operating Cost
Perhaps the most important thing to consider when buying a plasma is the long term operating cost. Once you understand the long term cost implications, it is much easier to justify the investment in new technology.

Many factors contribute to the operating cost of a plasma system, including consumable cost, consumable life, power efficiency, and gas consumption.

Power Efficiency

ESAB’s EPP power supplies are among the most efficient power sources available, having power factors in the range of .91 to .95.

Consumable Life

Many factors affect the life of a nozzle and electrode. Chief among those are the number of pierces, and the arc on time. Other factors include gas flow, pierce spatter, part tip-ups, arc stretching, and gas contamination. ESAB does a number of things to address these factors, but many of them can only be controlled by the machine operator.

Consumable Cost

The new PT-36 torch uses a smaller, less expensive electrode, compared to most other plasma systems. In a head to head comparison, ESAB’s consumable cost beats the competition.

When taking into account consumable cost, cutting speed, and consumable life, ESAB’s operating cost is as much as 24% lower than competitive systems.
