With m3 plasma, ESAB defines a new standard for specifying cut quality. You can easily select Precision, Production or Sever quality modes and use more than one mode in the same part program. Because the PT-36 torch uses the same electrode over the entire range of oxygen plasma from 100 to 450 amps, and nozzles can be used at multiple amperage settings, you can quickly switch quality modes without changing consumables. This allows you to maximize cut quality on interior holes and cut-outs while maximizing speed on exterior cuts.
The ISO 9013 specification sets international standards for cut edge quality. ESAB m3 plasma Precision Mode surpasses the competition – achieving higher cut quality throughout the life of the consumable. ESAB m3 Precision Mode achieves ISO9013 range 3 or better edge quality over a wider range of materials and power settings than any competitive system.

The m3 plasma system is the most versatile system on the market, offering all these capabilities in a single system:
- 3 Operating Modes: Precision, Production, and Sever
- High-Precision Plasma
- High-Speed Plasma
- High-Current/Thick Plate Cutting
- Plasma Marking
- Straight or Bevel Cutting
- Single or Mixed shield gases
With the versatility of m3 plasma, you pick the results you want.
Where most competitive systems only have one mode of operation, m3 has three. In Precision Mode, the cut quality exceeds that of competitive systems, while cutting speeds are comparable. In Production Mode, cut speeds exceed those of competitive systems, while cut quality is comparable. In addition, a Sever Mode allows the fastest possible speeds for higher production when quality isn't critical.
What can you expect from Precision, Production, and Sever modes?
Each mode has its purpose, and m3 gives you the flexibility to pick the one you need.
Precision
Precision Mode maximizes cut quality, yielding cut results in ISO 9013 range 3 or better, with a sharp top & bottom edge.
Production
Production Mode balances cut quality and speed, producing cut results in ISO 9013 range 4 or better, with some top edge rounding and virtually no dross.
Sever
Sever mode maximizes cut speed, for use when cut quality is not the priority. Typically producing more edge bevel, a rounded top edge, some dross is expected.

The m3 plasma system not only offers you more. It does it all for less, with one of the lowest operating costs in the industry. Many factors contribute to the operating cost of a plasma system. The m3 system design lowers costs from all angles.
Consumable Life – m3 plasma maximizes consumable life by delivering the most accurately controlled and consistent flow of gases through the torch. A new gas control system, combined with ESAB’s Ultra-Life Technology, allows you to achieve longer consumable life and lower operating cost.
Consumable Cost – The new PT-36 torch uses a smaller, less expensive electrode than other plasma systems, with fewer parts to purchase and stock. In a head-to-head comparison, ESAB’s consumable cost clearly beats the competition. The PT-36 also requires fewer parts to purchase and stock. The PT-36 uses fewer than 30 different consumable parts to cover its full cutting range up to 6.25” stainless steel. Other systems require as many as 66 different parts, and don’t even cover the same range of materials.
Power Efficiency – ESAB’s EPP power supplies rank among the most efficient power sources available, with power factors in the range of 91-95%.
Operating Cost – When you take into account longer consumable life, lower consumable cost, faster cutting speeds, and high power efficiency, the result is lower overall operating cost - as much as 24% lower than competitive systems.
